Step 2: Now my dressing table...

This is my dream dressing table...
I fell in love with this the moment I saw it at Ikea. The clean lines, old fashioned mirror (without being over the top) and all painted in white. And I love that the designers had included 2 small drawers at each side so that I can display my Hello Kitty make-up collection from Sephora!
Unfortunately, by the time I was ready to go buy this, it had sold out! So sad... In fact, I liked it so much that I even considered traveling across the border to the Ikea at KL to get it. Couldn't convince my hubby though... he had to endure my whinning for the next few weeks since he was the one who refused to let me buy this when I was still in school... haha...

My hubby always said that I'm the kind of person who just can't let go... well, yes I am adamant and persistent when it comes to Hello Kitty. Eventually, I did find the perfect dressing table complement although it is kinda small compared to what I initially wanted. (see right) I saw this really lovely kitty shelf on the Sanrio.jp webstore a few years back but as they do not ship overseas, I didn't know how I could buy it. Well, I found an online concierge service called "White Rabbit" that helps customers order and deliver items from Japan =) So, my dream came true... although it does cost as much as the dressing table from Ikea =P

I needed a platform to mount this though (see example on left) so I went to my favorite furniture store (can you guess which one... haha) to find something suitable. After some searching and deep contemplation, I chose this white Hemnes bedside table to go with my kitty shelf... So excited to see if the item would be as shown in the pictures... and also worried if the shipment would be delivered at all...

Step 2: Where's my bed?

Now that I've finalized my plans, its time to go shopping!
See my shopping list:
1. Bed
2. TV Rack
3. Wardrobe or Dresser
4. Dressing table
5. Paints

The bed would be the focal point in the room and I imagined it to be romantic and princess-like, with plenty of space for my plush and kitty pillows.

I narrowed it down to 3 choices eventually. The double-decker (left) would give me plenty of space at the top for displaying my plush. And I can put out 2 different kitty bedsheets. I also love the built-in shelving where I can display my entire tiny chum collection =)
Also, I deliberately picked beds which are similar to daybeds as the bed would be placed against the wall. Another consideration is so that I can sit and watch TV =) much like a sofa. (see below)

Can you guess which choice I made?

Stage 1: What's my plan?

First, I need my darling hubby's approval and support =) So I created this really nice (rite?) presentation to try and convince him that having a Hello Kitty room is a wonderful idea...
I used this really neat interior design software to help me decide on what's the best way to arrange my furniture and also choose the most suitable colors to achieve the effect that I want. Well, hubby's condition was that he doesn't want an all-pink room so I decided to just have a small portion of pink wall and contrast it with baby green. The effect looks pretty sweet huh? =)
Next, I tried to convince him that I need all the space and some extra furniture so that I can proudly display all my lovely Kitty collection.

I tried out baby blue at my hubby's request but I still think green is sweeter. Glad I managed to convince him that green is the best choice since I have great taste haha...
Finally, my concept was approved! Yay! Time to shop for furniture and get started... its so exciting!

In the Beginning...

This was the room I was using as a temporary study room while slogging for my degree. Finally, my final exams were over and I was able to start on Project: My Hello Kitty Room =) For the past two years while my plans were on hold, I had amassed quite a number of Hello Kitty items meant to furnish the room. I guess I was never more motivated to study hard and clear my exams =)

My Hello Kitty Room

Well, I guess you need a place to keep the loony sane... for me, that would be my Hello Kitty room. It is a sanctuary (or at least I hope it would be) where I can freely indulge in my Hello Kitty obsession and never be judged. It started as an inkling in my mind when I first saw the Hello Kitty & Tiny Chum room collection: a series of bedroom accessories featuring my most favorite tiny bears and kitty cat. Bedsheets, hairbrush, mirrors, tissue box and CUDDLY PLUSH!!! I began to imagine what it would be like to have my very own Hello Kitty haven... a place where I can indulge in all things kawaii without having to be subjected to public scrutiny... woohoo... have Hello Kitty tea parties with my girlfriends (I guess I'm trying to fulfill my childhood dream haha)... a very happy me indeed. So, to my hubby's dismay... I started Project: My Hello Kitty Room. Read on to find out if I really made it happen...
